Bringing Structure and Life Back to a Tired Garden

The client had inherited a garden that had lost its way — a once-promising wildflower meadow overtaken by weeds, and a layout that lacked visual flow or intent. The goal was to reintroduce structure, restore health to the soil, and bring renewed vibrancy and ecological value to the space.

Soil Regeneration and Natural Structure

We began by carefully relocating existing trees and shrubs to create a clearer framework for the space. The borders were reshaped into soft, sweeping curves to guide the eye and movement throughout the garden. A full cutback of the herbaceous layer allowed us to reset the planting areas.

To suppress weeds and improve biodiversity, we applied a cardboard base and topped it with 200mm of local concrete sand — a low-nutrient medium ideal for establishing a diverse mix of plant species. The sand also promotes drainage and long-term soil health. Planting is now underway, and the garden is set to transform into a resilient, richly textured landscape over the coming seasons.
